Goals are incredibly important to have in many areas of your life. They're like a road map-they give you a starting point and an end point that you can use as your guide.
It's important that your goals are ones that have a positive effect on either your life, others' lives, etc.
With that I have 4 goals that you should absolutely consider having that will improve your overall ability to remain functional throughout your lifespan.
1.Be able to lie down on the floor and get back up with minimal use of your hands.
In the absence of disease and other complications you can achieve this no matter your age. Being able to do this is a life saving skill that contributes to maintaining your independence. The ability to do this with minimal use of your hands is also a huge positive indicator of your overall strength and stability.
2.Be able to reach behind your low back or behind the back of your head.
A lack of shoulder mobility can significantly impair your ability to function independently. If this range of motion lessens due to immobility or being sedentary it can prevent you from being able to bathe, get dressed, clean after using the bathroom, and more.
3.Reach forward and touch the floor without pain or difficulty
This is extremely indicative of a healthy spine and hips. It's also a pre-step to lots of other movements that are beneficial and functional like a low lunge, quadruped, deep squat, etc.
4. Be able to stand on one leg (without using your hands for balance) for longer than 30 seconds
Standing on one leg is not only indicative of your ability to balance but it also speaks volumes about your brain health, strength, and joint health.
These goals will significantly improve your quality of life but also impact the lives of those around you as they see you moving through life with strength and confidence.
